Kaohsiung City poised to become important base in global electric bus market

Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chi-mai said that he looks forward to jointly building the world’s most important electric bus base during a handover ceremony that saw the city taking delivery of the first electric bus produced by Foxconn joint venture Foxtron today, March 3.

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (TSE: 2354, Foxconn Technology Group) Chairman Liu Young-way said that the delivery was the most important milestone since the company ventured into the electric vehicle industry. Liu noted that 65% of the concept, design, and components of the “Model T Bus” were delivered by Taiwan’s MIH Open Electric Vehicle Alliance.

The first Model T electric bus will travel on the newly added “24-area bus route” from March 16. It will depart from Zuoying High Speed Rail Station from 7:00 am to 6:30 pm daily and travel along Dazhong 2nd Road, Minzu 1st Road, Tianzhu Road, Xianger Road, Xinzhuangzai Road, Boai Road, Longdexin Road, Ziyi Road, stopping at Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, Hanshen Arena, Aozidi MRT Station, Yixiang Tiandi and other stations along the way, on a 14-kilometer, approximately 50 minutes round trip.

The Model T has a maximum passenger capacity of 50 people. It has a 300KWh lithium battery module with a range of over 300 kilometers and can be fully charged in two hours.

The bus is one of 30 Model T electric buses that will be delivered to Kaohsiung City this year.
