Joint venture launches made in Taiwan electric buses for global market
A joint venture between Tangrong Advanced Vehicles (TAV) and Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) has launched a new electric bus for the domestic and international market.
The “Alighter” brand electric bus was unveiled at the Alighter Taiwan Electric Bus First Global Presentation at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Hall, yesterday, January 5.
TAV boasts that the new bus pioneers several unique bests, including the most lightweight aluminum alloy body, the most user-friendly low floor, the most advanced battery liquid cooling system, the most technologically advanced LCD smart cockpit, and a range of 450 kilometers. The bus can accelerate from 0-20 in just 2.3 seconds, and carry 88 passengers.
Development and manufacturing of the bus involved 30 other companies forming an “ecological supply chain.” Other partners include Yali Electric, Datong, Far East Machinery, SINBON Electronics, Phihong Technology, Winshare Technology, Chimei Automotive, Weisheng Electric, Taiwan Sui Technology, and Quanfeng Optoelectronics.
Alighter electric buses will go on sale in Taiwan in the first quarter of 2022, and sales to North America, Japan, and Southeast Asia are expected to start later this year.
Hu Kaihong, chairman of Hanxiang, revealed that the average price of the Alighter electric bus is NT$10 million, which is quite competitive in the domestic and international market.
