iPads delivered by helicopter to kids living in stranded mountain communities

A helicopter was used to deliver iPads to a remote mountain community in southern Taiwan yesterday, as kids prepare to go back to school in villages left cut-off after roads and bridges were destroyed by floods earlier this month.

Forty-two iPads were among the 600 kilogram load of essential supplies airlifted by a National Airborne Service Corp Helicopter yesterday, August 24.

The iPads were purchased by the Kaohsiung City Government Education Bureau, and delivered to Zhangshan Elementary School to help facilitate remote learning for students left isolated by landslides and washed out roads and bridges in the area.

The NASC helicopter took off from Kaohsiung City at 9:00 am and landed in Taoyuan District at 9:36 am. Residents formed a bucket line to unload the supplies, which included cooking oil, soy sauce, Rice, pork floss, canned food, rice noodles, heat-and-eat chicken dishes, tea drinks, soy milk, oat porridge, biscuits, and 6 boxes of freshly made sliced bread.

Yesterday’s airlift is the 7th since August 8 after catastrophic levels of rain inundated Taiwan’s southern districts, leaving some communities isolated by washed out roads, landslides, and destroyed bridges.
