“I don’t need therapy, I just need to go to Taiwan” a big hit in online sales, so legislator features his own mug
A series of products featuring the words “I don’t need therapy, I just need to go to Taiwan” has generated a viral level of sales on online shopping sites recently, so a Taiwanese legislator had a mug designed with the addition “Taiwan support frontline health heroes.”
With much of the world gripped in fear, and locked down with restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a design company in the United States launched a coffee mug featuring the words “I don’t need therapy, I just need to go to Taiwan,” on online shopping platforms including Amazon and Etsy, according to a report in United Daily News.
The United Daily News report claims that 10,000 of the mugs were sold, until some platforms were out of stock.
The slogan “I don’t need therapy, I just need to go to Taiwan” also appeared on other products such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets.
China Times reported that Democratic Progressive Party legislator, representing Pingtung County, Chung Chia-pin ( 鍾佳濱), yesterday, January 15, said that since the product was sold out and no-one in Taiwan sells similar products, that he engaged a local design company to incorporate the slogan, and added “Taiwan Support Frontline Medical Heroes.”
Chung had 100 of the mugs printed to send to colleagues in the Legislative Yuan, and frontline medical staff. Chung also published the design as a Portable Network Graphics file on his Facebook page and encouraged others to download it and print it onto mugs to send to medical staff.
While the World Health Organization posits the number of global COVID-19 cases as reaching 93.3 million today, with deaths in excess of 2 million, Taiwan, who is not a WHO member, and is disallowed from membership of the organization, and of the World Health Assembly (WHA), has recorded just 842 cases, and only 7 deaths among its more than 23 million population.
A September 2020 analysis by our World in Data reported that Taiwan shows lowest economic impact due to COVID-19 among 38 countries analysed.
In March 2020, Taiwan’s Vice-President Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) challenged World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on his unprofessional interpretation of data on COVID mortality rates.
Throughout 2020, Taiwan’s health authorities rejected mass screening for COVID-19 via PCR tests, and also rejected antiviral drug “cocktail” therapy for patients.
