High-tech traffic cameras installed at intersection capture 812 violations on first day of operation

New traffic law enforcement cameras installed at an intersection at National Freeway 1 Linkou Interchange yesterday, November 2, have already racked up 812 violations, netting NT$484,200 in fines after just 24 hours.

The Traffic Police Corps of Taoyuan City Police Department said that the new law enforcement equipment can cover a variety of traffic violations. As well as red-light runners, the cameras can capture and record illegal lane changes, and cars using left or right turn lanes to go straight, and turning left or right from straight lanes.

Among the 812 traffic infringements recorded since yesterday, only 5 were cases of red light running, and the other 807 violations involved disobeying traffic signs and road markings.

The systems were installed due to the frequent number of vehicular accidents at the intersection of Wenhua 1st Road, and Guishan 1st Road at the approach of the 41A north ramp.

The cameras can operate 24 hours, and reduce the number of violations, while freeing manpower for other policing duties.

Police urged drivers to obey the traffic rules at the intersection in order to prevent accidents and bleeding wallets.
