Gang-member Arrested after Sub-machine Gun Burst
A member of the Bamboo Union, the biggest triad in Taiwan, was arrested today, after firing a burst from a sub-machine gun into the air outside a community facing the National Palace Museum, in Taipei City.
The incident happened at around 3:00am, yesterday, October 21.
The man claimed he was in a bad mood, and was just making a passing salute. The community he made the “salute” to is a well-known enclave of Taiwan’s native elite, including wealthy business people, celebrities, and independence-leaning politicians.
The shooter gave elusive answers during his interrogation, while singing patriotic Chinese military songs. The Bamboo Union is a gang formed by children of Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) members in the 1950s, purportedly to protect themselves from Taiwanese kids.
Police confiscated a German-made Heckler & Koch MP5K sub-machine gun and 300 rounds of ammunition, along with 78 shotgun shells.
The MP5K is the ultimate close-quarters weapon. Created for use in very confined spaces, it is optimally suited both for active engagement of individual targets, and for personal defense.
With its low weight and compact size, it offers a decisive advantage: The weapon can be carried concealed on the person without limiting the carrier‘s freedom of movement.
