Fireworks factory explosion leaves one injured: second incident in less than a year

An explosion at a fireworks factory in Chiayi County left one man injured this afternoon, and it is the second explosion incident at the factory in less than one year.

The Chiayi County Fire Department said that it received reports of an explosion at the Yongfeng pyrotechnic factory in Yongtun Village, Dongshi Township at 1:23 pm. Firefighting units were dispatched from Puzi, Xianghe, Dongshi and Budai fire stations.

No fire followed the explosion, but one man was found injured. The employee, aged in his 40s suffered second to third degree burns to around 50% of his body, and was conscious when rushed to Chiayi Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.

An explosion at the same factory in June last year left a Filipino employee critically injured. Following last year’s incident, the operators of the factory were fined NT$300,000 and ordered to shut down for one month.
