Fireworks factory explosion leaves Filipino man critically injured

A Philippines national is fighting for his life in hospital after an explosion and fire at a fireworks factory in Chiayi County this afternoon, Sunday, June 6.

The Chiayi County Fire Department received reports of an explosion and fire at the Yongfeng Pyrotechnic Factory in Dongshi Township at around 2:20 pm.

Because the fire was located in a pyrotechnics factory, the fire department spared no precautions, and dispatched eleven vehicles and a large number of personnel to the scene from Dongshi, Puzi, Liujiao, Xianghe, and Budai fire stations.

However, the fire-affected area was relatively small, covering an area of around 20 square meters, and was quickly extinguished.

An injured 30-year-old Filipino man was rushed to Chiayi Chang Gung Memorial hospital suffering burns to 70% of his body. According to reports, the injured man has been intubated and is currently in the intensive care unit with unstable vital signs.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
