Fatal high-speed drunk driving crash in Pingtung County: car disintegrated on impact

One man died and another was left in a critical condition after a single-vehicle crash in Checheng Township, Pingtung County yesterday, August 15, but the car was so badly damaged that police do not know which man was the driver.

Traffic monitor footage of the incident shows that at 5:36 am Sunday, a black car drifted across the intersection of Zhongshan Road and Tainzhong Road at high speed before slamming into the safety island.

Two men were rushed to Hengchun Tourism Hospital by ambulance, but one was declared dead shortly after arrival. The other man remains in a critical condition. Blood tests of both men showed blood alcohol levels of 3 to 4 times the legal limit.

Due to the extent of damage to the vehicle it was impossible to identify which one of the men was driving, police said.
