Driver killed in horrific high-speed single-vehicle crash in Yilan County

A driver who died after he was thrown from his vehicle when it slammed into a utility pole on a highway in Yilan County today has not yet been identified as police continue an investigation into the crash.

The Yilan County Fire Bureau received a report of a single-vehicle accident at the 4 kilometer mark of Provincial Highway 7C in Datong Township at 9:29 am. Firefighters and police arrived at the scene to find the car ablaze, and the driver without vital signs 30 meters away from the vehicle.

According to the preliminary investigation, the vehicle had obviously hit the utility pole at high speed, as it had disintegrated on impact. The driver was thrown out of the vehicle, and the nature of his injuries suggest that he had died instantly.

Firefighters dispatched from Datong and Sanxing extinguished the fire at 9:58 am, and an examination of the car and surroundings found that there were no other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
