Driver killed after car goes airborne in Taipei City crash
A driver was declared dead in hospital after being pulled out of the wreck of a car that flew as high as the second floor of nearby buildings before crashing into a wall in Taipei City, during peak commuter traffic, this morning, April 15.
At around 9:00am, Mr Jiang (姜), 46, came off an exit ramp of the Jianguo Expressway onto Jianguo South Road at high speed, drifting right, and plowing into parked scooters before hitting the kerb, launching his car into the air.
The Volvo SUV took out signs protruding from the second floor of a building before flying over a side street and hitting a wall as it came down on the other side.
Jiang was trapped in the driver’s seat when firefighters arrived. When Jiang was pulled from the wreck, around 10 minutes later, he had a severe head injury and showed no signs of life. Jiang was later declared dead at the hospital.
According to Apple Daily, Mr Jiang had just taken delivery of the new Volvo on Saturday, and the vehicle had only 152 kilometers on the odometer.
According to an EBC report, Mr Jiang had a history of cardio-vascular disease, and the possibility that Jiang had a heart attack before the crash is being investigated.
