Driver falls to his death from elevated road after crashing Tesla

A man driving a Tesla fell to his death from an elevated section of Freeway one in Xizhi District, New Taipei City, after crashing into the center divider between the freeway and an off-ramp this afternoon, November 24.

Two passengers in the car survived the crash, and were conscious but injured when firefighters pulled them out of the mangled wreck. The two survivors were sent to Neihu Tri-Services General Hospital for emergency treatment.

The driver, a 23-year-old man named Hua (華), was found dead on the pavement 16 meters below the scene of the accident. While at first it was suspected that he had been thrown from the vehicle in the crash, a passenger in the car said that Hua had been assisted out of the vehicle by a passerby.

According to reports, Hua was test driving the Tesla, traveling with a 22-year-old male Tesla salesperson named Lee, and a 24-year old female Korean national named Ming. At around 1:15pm, Hua was about to exit the freeway via the off-ramp when the vehicle went out of control.

According to a witness quoted in an SET News report, Hua had exited the vehicle after the accident and was seen talking on his mobile phone. A short time later he fell. ET Today says witnesses saw Hua climbing over the guardrail.

Bloody handmarks and smudges were clearly visible on the guardrail in some video and pictures taken at the site.

Police are currently investigating the cause of the accident, and the reason Hua fell to his death.
