Cops pull man back from the brink of death in New Taipei City

Police officers in New Taipei City succeeded in stopping a man who attempted suicide by jumping of a bridge in Banciao District, yesterday, January 5.

Police officers from Daguan Police Station, and firefighters responded to reports of a man behaving erratically on Fuzhou Bridge at around 12:00 pm.

The emergency responders found a 32-year-old man named Huang, drunk, depressed, and intent on jumping from the bridge into the Dahan River.

The police officers attempted to dissuade Huang, but eventually had to physically restrain him. When the officers grabbed his jacket and shirt, Huang tore the clothes off, and fell backwards towards the river.

One police officer was left holding him by the knees as Huang hung upside down from a cable conduit.

Huang was eventually pulled back onto the bridge, and sent to a local hospital.
