China Airlines Cargo shrinks the “China” and brings Taiwan image to the fore

China Airlines introduced its new Boeing 777F air freighter today, December 14, with a new livery that put the “China” in smaller letters at the tail end of the plane, and a big image of Taiwan front and center.

The new livery comes after humanitarian flights delivering anti-epidemic supplies from Taiwan to various countries earlier this year were mistaken as having come from the People’s Republic of China.

China Airlines said that the 777F has the advantages of fuel-saving and high efficiency and will make up the mainstay of the airline’s cargo fleet in the post-epidemic era.

Six of the aircraft have been ordered for delivery between 2020 and 2023. The first aircraft was delivered on December 1. Two more are due for delivery before the end of January 2021.

As for the livery, the word “Cargo” in large letters at the front of the aircraft incorporates the outline of Taiwan’s main island in the capital “C.”

Cargo services have helped to sustain the airline through the COVID-19 pandemic, with cargo revenue up 83% year-on-year in November 2020.
