Bus driver, passenger fight over proper mask wearing

A bus driver and passenger had a physical conflict at a bus stop in Taipei City this afternoon, after an argument over the passenger’s improper wearing of a surgical mask.

According to a China Times report, the bus driver, described as around 50 years old, had requested that a passenger, around 70 years old, put his mask fully over his mouth and nose. However, the passenger kept exposing his nose, and sometimes his mouth, and argued with the driver all the way from Linkou District to Taipei Main Station.

When the bus arrived at Taipei Main Station at around 2:00 pm, the older man alighted from the bus and warned the driver that he was going to lodge a complaint over his poor service attitude. The bus driver then got off the bus and started fighting with the disgruntled passenger.

Witnesses reported the incident, and when police arrived, both men insisted on pressing charges on the other. Both men suffered bruising and were taken to the hospital before making formal statements at the police station.
