Baby found abandoned at school gate in Yunlin County

Police and social workers in Yunlin County are searching for the parents of a two-month-old baby, after it was found abandoned in the courtyard of a kindergarten in Dayi Township.

A member of staff at the kindergarten was alerted by the sound of the infant’s faint cries when she stepped out of the front door at around 5:00 pm, yesterday, Tuesday, December 4.

The baby was dressed in thin clothing, and wrapped in a bath towel. A medical examination at Taiwan National University Hospital Yunlin Branch found that the baby was a boy around 1.5 to 2 months old. The baby weighed 3,800 grams, and there was no sign of physical injury or ill health.

Social workers from the Yunlin County Social Affairs Department took the baby into care. Police from the Dounan Police Precinct are investigating surveillance footage and birth records in local hospitals in an attempt to identify the baby’s parents.

Yunlin County Government said that if family members have difficulties in parenting, the county government can provide family support and parental education.
