4 year-old Rescued after Dangling from 5th Floor

Firefighters in Pingtung City today rescued a four year-old boy after he clambered onto the security grill on a balcony on the the 5th floor and fell through a gap.

Witnesses reported that a boy was dangling from the 5th floor of a building at around 11:20am.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and neighbors manned a rescue pad below the boy, as a precaution, in case he fell.

Finding the 5th floor apartment unoccupied and locked, a rescue team went to the sixth floor and rappelled to the 5th floor to cut the security grill and support the boy until a ladder truck was employed to complete the rescue.

Although the child did not suffer any obvious injury, he was sent to hospital for a comprehensive medical check-up.

According to Apple Daily reports, a man named Su, went out this morning and left his 4 year-old son alone at home.

Police said that Mr Su had violated Article 51 of the Children and Juvenile Welfare and Protection Act by leaving his child at home without adult supervision.

Subject to the act, parents of young children who leave their child at home without supervision must receive 4 to 15 hours of parental education counselling, or be subject to a fine of between NT$3,000 to NT$30,000.

After rushing to the hospital and being informed by police, Mr Su said: “I will accept the punishment.”
