4 Tremors Shake Taitung City: No Serious Damage or Injuries
A series of 4 shallow quakes offshore of Taitung City this morning caused sirens to sound, sending residents to seek the safety of the outdoors. The largest of the quakes measured 4.6 at the epicenter but was felt as a magnitude 5 in the city.
The first, and strongest tremor hit at 9:03am at a depth of 7.4km, 13.1km north-east of the city, and was followed by aftershocks of magnitude 3.9, 3.5, and 3.5, at 9:04am, 9:17am, and 9:19am, respectively.
Products fell off supermarket shelves, and ceiling tiles fell, but no serious damage or injury was reported.
