2 Injured After Man Jumps from 5th Floor and lands on Scooter Rider

Two men were hospitalized last night, after a man jumped from the 5th floor of a building in Taipei City’s Wanhua District and landed on a moving scooter.

At around 8:45pm, July 12, a 34 year-old man named Chen, depressed due to unemployment, jumped from the roof of the building on Zhonghua Road. Chen hit a 29 year-old man named Lin who was riding a scooter at the time. Lin suffered a fractured left lower-leg, while Chen suffered multiple fractures and lost consciousness at the scene.

Both men were rushed to hospital and are said to be out of danger after treatment.

Chen’s girlfriend said that Chen was usually employed as a photography assistant and the couple lived on the 4th floor of the building. Nobody had any idea that Chen was feeling suicidal, however, he had recently been frustrated at having difficulty finding a job.

Lin told reporters that he worked in the travel industry and that his injury will seriously affect his livelihood. Therefore, he will seek compensation from Chen.
