15 passengers slightly injured after tour bus crash on freeway
Fifteen people were injured, none seriously, after a bus driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed on National Highway 3 in Taoyuan City today, Monday, August 1.
Taoyuan City Fire Department said that it received reports about a tour bus crashing and flipping onto its side in the southbound lanes of the Daxi Section of the freeway at 12:20 pm. TCFD dispatched five firetrucks, five ambulances, and 20 personnel to the scene of the accident.
Fire fighters assisted the 20 occupants of the tour bus to exit from an emergency escape hatch on the roof of the bus. Fifteen passengers were sent to three local hospitals for treatment and observation. All of the injuries were described as bruising and contusions, and none were considered serious.
The flipped-over bus occupied three lanes of the highway, causing traffic to back up around 3 kilometers until the accident site was completely cleared at around 2:00 pm.
According to the preliminary investigation by National Highway Police, the bus veered from its lane and hit the rear side of a truck before the driver lost control of the vehicle. The bus skidded sideways before flipping onto its side.
The tour bus driver and truck driver were tested and found not to be affected by alcohol at the time of the accident.
