111 kilo Ketamine Shipment Intercepted at Port of Kaohsiung
Customs officers and police discovered 111 kilograms of ketamine hidden in a shipment of plastic mold injection machines at the Port of Kaohsiung August 6.
At a press conference today, August 9, police in Taichung City told reporters that an investigation began in February this year after police were tipped off that a legally-registered company in Yunlin County was importing drugs hidden in plastic molding equipment. The investigation culminated in the intercept at Kaohsiung Harbor, Monday this week.
Customs police intercepted a container imported from Malaysia and marked as “Plastic injection tools.” The goods successfully passed examination by X-ray and sniffer dogs. However, a physical examination revealed bags of ketamine hidden between multiple layers of plastic smothered in lubricating oil.
A total of 126 bags were found with a total weight of 111.454 kilograms. Police estimate the street value at NT$120 million.
A 32 year-old man named Liu, and two of his associates were arrested in connection with the shipment. A search of the suspect’s house turned up a modified firearm and one bullet.
