A woman in Changhua County survived a rollover accident on National Freeway 1, only to be killed after a semi-trailer slammed into the back of the vehicle.

At around 6:00am this morning, Ms Chen, 51, lost control of her vehicle after being clipped by another car when one of the cars was changing lanes. Chen got out of the vehicle, but her 21 year-old daughter remained trapped in the car. Chen was trying to open the door to help her daughter, when the truck slammed into the car.

Both women were rushed to hospital, but Ms Chen succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead shortly after arrival. Chen’s daughter was only slightly injured with abrasions to her right arm.

Police confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the accident. The driver who caused the accident, a man named Huang, confessed to police that he had dozed off before hitting Chen’s car, causing it to flip over.
