Wet weather across Taiwan this week has resulted in many traffic accidents. Yesterday, Saturday August 29, a two-vehicle collision on the national highway at Chiayi led to further collisions as other drivers failed to brake on time on the slippery road. A total of 6 vehicles were damaged, and 8 people were injured. Firefighters were dealing with the first collision when a pile-up of four cars occurred about 100 meters behind them. Taipei (Hsintien District): A driver-less car rolled down a steep slope across a busy street, smashing into three scooter riders and a car. The driver parked the car and got out without applying the handbrake. A few seconds later he heard the sound of the crash, and turned his head to see his car amid a scene of chaos and destruction. Yunlin County: Fortunately nobody was seriously injured or killed in this traffic accident in Yunlin this morning. The car veers left from the outside lane across the inside lane, across an intersection and straight into a traffic barrier. There is no attempt to brake the vehicle or avoid the obstacle. Tainan: Suspected brake failure caused a 10 ton truck to roll down a freeway exit ramp and across a busy 4 lane road, killing a scooter rider and injuring 3 other other people. The incident was caught on security cameras. A car was crushed by a train when it was struck at a level crossing, then jammed between the train and a building. Fortunately no one was injured in the incident.
