Gun Busts in Taipei and Kaohsiung Turn up “Rare Weapons”

Police in Taipei and Kaohsiung reported busting criminal firearms operations in separate and unrelated cases today. In both cases weapons described as rare were found, including modern sub machine guns and a WWII pistol. In Taipei City criminal investigation division police from Beitou Police Bureau raided a betel nut stand operating as a front for firearms dealing by members of the Bamboo Union gang. Underground Arsenal Seized in Taoyuan

Police in Taoyuan arrested a 25 year old man with a gang background after they found him in possession of a weapons arsenal and 6 kilograms of ketamine. Among the weapons were a hand grenade, a sub-machine gun, 4 assault rifles, 13 handguns, and thousands of rounds of ammunition. Police arrested the man surnamed Xie after finding the weapons and drugs in his car.

Gangsters Arrested in Wanhua District

Wanhua district in New Taipei City is a famous gangster haven in Taiwan, and even featured in the movie Bangka. This morning several thugs, including their gang leader were arrested after being caught on camera causing havoc, and violently intimidating a business proprietor over failure to pay protection money. The gang is estimated to have earned up to NT$10 million in the scheme over the last couple of years.
