Migrant Worker Injured After Hit by Moving Train on Station Platform

An Indonesian man was injured after being hit by a moving train while standing on a platform at Chungli Station in Taoyuan today. Reports in Liberty Times Network and Apple Daily say the man was affected by alcohol at the time.

At 3:32 pm, local shuttle service train No. 1204 traveling from Miaoli to Keelung was arriving at Chungli Station when the 31 year old man named as Rokim in media reports “moved toward the moving train.” Liberty Times reported that police suspected that Rokim was “unstable while walking on the platform.”

Rokim was given first aid at the scene by paramedics, and suffered a 4 centimeter laceration to his forehead. Rokim was conscious and said to be recovering in hospital with non-critical injuries.

Two trains were affected by a delay of 27 minutes with an estimated 950 passengers affected.

The incident is the second accident today involving a person being hit by a train while on a platform at a train station. Earlier today, a woman was hit and killed by a train after fainting on a platform at Taipei Main Station.
