Dog Fighting Ring Busted in Taoyuan

Police in Taoyuan yesterday raided a property hosting dog fights involving pit bulls. A total of 55 people were arrested.

Contest organizers used spears to torture and draw blood from the dogs in order to enrage them before fights.

Guanyin District, Taoyuan, Saturday, June 24, police raided an isolated house and arrested organizers and gamblers.

The organizer of the fights was named as a 33 year-old man, Mr. Hsieh. Thirteen people were classed as “staff,” including the organizer, the MC, bookmakers, and lookouts. The spectators and gamblers had been charged NT$500 to enter the venue to watch the fights.

Mr Hsieh admitted that he had been organizing dog fights in southern Taiwan, and said that this was the first dog fight he had organized in the north.

Police confiscated NT$10,000 at the scene, along with two walkie-talkies, two sharpened sticks used to beat and stab the dogs, and 195 admission tickets.

All 55 suspects have been charged with gambling offenses, while Mr Hsieh and the two owners of the dogs will also be charged with animal cruelty offenses.

Terrible! I am so sad to see that there are dog fights in Taiwan. So many people are working so hard to give the animals in Taiwan better lives. Dog fights should be strictly against the law. It’s animal cruelty and it’s barbaric. The guilty people should not be allowed to get away with this!
