Dealer Murdered During Drug Deal

A 26 year-old man stabbed a 24 year-old man to death during a drug deal in Taoyuan City early yesterday morning, Monday, February 20.

At around 5:00 am, a man named Gao met a man named Chen at a temple behind Yuan Ze University with the intention of purchasing NT30,000 worth of drugs. The two men traveled to Bade District on Chen’s motorcycle. The men stopped at an intersection on Dongtai Street, where a dispute occurred.

During the altercation, Gao stabbed Chen in the thigh with a fruit knife. Chen fell to the ground and Gao made off on foot with the drugs.

Chen suffered a severed artery and massive blood loss. He did not respond to emergency medical treatment, and was rushed to Taoyuan Hospital where he was declared dead.

Police from Bade Police Precinct sealed off the crime scene for investigation, and identified the suspect from traffic monitor footage. At around 5:00 pm yesterday afternoon, Gao turned himself in.

Gao denied that he had killed Chen merely to steal the drugs. Gao claimed that Chen had sold Gao’s friends poor quality drugs, and that he had just wanted to teach Chen a lesson.

However, police investigators found that Gao had visited the scene of the crime one hour before he met Chen to survey the scene, and had carried a 30 centimeter long fish knife with him, suggesting that the crime was premeditated.

The case has been handed over to the Taoyuan District Prosecutor’s Office.
