Patrick the Koala Passes Away at Taipei Zoo

One of Taipei Zoo’s oldest koalas, Patrick, passed away yesterday October 10 after weakening due to old age. The 19 year old koala was born a Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, on Australia’s Gold Coast, and arrived at the zoo in 1999. Formosan Macaques Poisoned on Monkey Mountain

A Toxicology report released today shows that rat poison was cause of death for 15 Formosan rock macaques that were found in Kaohsiung between August 18 and 24. The macaques were found on Shoushan, a mountain north of the Kaohsiung Harbor entrance, commonly called Monkey Mountain in English. Cat Killer Beaten after Being Released on Bail:

Chaos reigned outside Taipei District Court today when angry animal lovers attacked a man emerging from the court after being charged with animal cruelty offenses. Taipei Zoo Giraffe Dead

A seven year-old Giraffe named Xiaojiu died in Taipei after an unsuccessful attempt to transport it to another zoo. Taipei Zoo staff were preparing to transport the animal to a zoo at Leofoo Theme Park as part of a breeding program when it sat down at an odd angle in the crate, causing veterinarians to declare it unfit for transportation.
