American Arrested in Drugs and Guns Case

An American citizen was arrested in Chiayi County last night, after a Taurus pistol and bullets were found in a car during a police search of the vehicle. Drugs were also found when police searched the suspect’s motel room.

Police in Zhongpu were on a routine patrol last night when they spotted a suspicious vehicle. After checking the license number on the police computer, they found the plate did not match the vehicle.

The police officers followed the car until it stopped at a motel. The driver of the vehicle was a 47 year-old woman name Li, who has a criminal record for drugs, theft, and other offenses.

A search of the car turned up a modified Taurus pistol and three bullets hidden in a plastic bag under the driver’s seat.

Police then searched the motel room, where they found a 29 year old American citizen of Chinese ethnicity named Zhou, who has outstanding charges related to possession of cannabis seeds. The officers also found amphetamines and a pipe in the room.

According to United Daily News, police believe that Zhou was on his way to Kaohsiung in an attempt to flee the country before his charges come up in court, and that Zhou had changed the license plates on the car in order to avoid police detection. Zhou denied the allegations.

Both Li and Zhou were handed over to the Chiayi District Prosecutor’s Office for processing over charges relating to firearms and drugs offenses.
