Pollution that resulted in a Miaoli County stream turning a milky-white color was traced to a Petrochemical plant in an industrial area today. The EPA have opened legal proceedings against the company responsible. Miaoli County Government Environmental Protection Bureau officers traced the source of the pollution after complaints by local residents who said that the stream changed color on a daily basis. Two foreign students are believed to have died in a 4th-floor roof-top apartment in Shilin District this evening after a fire broke out around 7:00pm. At 8:20pm, firefighters found the bodies of one male and one female. A man responsible for growing almost 600 cannabis plants on 3 floors of a rental property in Tucheng District, New Taipei City, turned himself in today, after realizing he couldn’t remain on the run. Chinese language media referred to the operation as a “marijuana botanical garden.” Police busted the operation August 3, after the landlord checked the property and found the locks had been changed, and a strong grass-like odor emanated from what purportedly was a frozen seafood distribution business.

Police swooped on a property in Shuishang township, Chiayi County yesterday and arrested organizers of a dog fighting ring and gamblers. Two pit bulls were rescued. A total of 16 people were arrested including the 55 year-old organizer named Chen. Chen collected a NT$200 entry fee from customers and took 5% from bets placed on the fights.
